Sustainability
OUR SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH
First of all, we should emphasize that; We know that being a respected company requires us to be on the side of nature and people. We carry this responsibility with all our employees and stakeholders and carry out all our activities “nature and human” We do this with determination and pioneering steps towards focused sustainability.
Although "leaving a more livable world to future generations" is our common mission, we are aware that the image created by the environmental problems in the plastics industry in society leads us to be even more sensitive on this issue. While we continue our R&D studies in line with this awareness, we will never give up our efforts to develop environmentally friendly products. We closely follow technological developments in our R&D activities to develop environmentally friendly, innovative and high added value products, and we do not neglect to cooperate with universities and industrial organizations in this regard.
While we strictly fulfill our legal responsibilities in our activities, we never compromise on quality in production or our sensitivity to the environment. Because we; One of the problems caused by the climate crisis in the world is; knows the decline in accessible clean water supplies is coming; We design our products to a quality that will not let a single drop of water go to waste.
In this context; We would also like to emphasize that we have held the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certificate, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certificate and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certificate since 1996. With these documents, we can demonstrate our constantly improving service and product quality as an indicator of our environmental sensitivity in our sector.
As we have emphasized before, we also attach importance to vocational training in order to continue our efforts to develop products that are sensitive to humans and nature in future generations. We can proudly state that we took the first step in 1996 to create the human resources that will continue our work with the same vision. Mazhar Zorlu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, built by our founder Mazhar Zorlu, continues its activities today as one of the important educational institutions in Turkey in terms of vocational education.
As an environment and people focused institution, we also believe in the importance of Gender Equality. Within the scope of the project initiated with UNDP, we have prepared the "Rules of Conduct Sensitive to Gender Equality" and have determined our road map in this regard. With this feature, we can proudly emphasize that there are no obstacles for female employees in any department of our company due to their gender, and that we encourage and support all our employees, male and female, to take part in all departments and jobs, regardless of their gender. By accepting these rules of conduct, we aim to be a leader in our industry, which can be called 'male dominated'.
MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIRMAN
The climate crisis and the ever-decreasing resources in the world inevitably lead us to a circular economy. So now, in the industry “Make, use, throw away” in its place “Make, use, transform” We have to adopt the system.
Of course, sustainability lies at the basis of this system, where how we produce is as important as what we produce. In other words, taking the necessary precautions by considering the consumption and welfare levels of future generations.
At the focus of the concept of sustainability “Environmental, economic and social” From this perspective, there are always people... Your company's employee is a human, your supplier is a human, your customer is a human, in other words, the cornerstone of the society you live in is a human...
As Ege Yıldız and Egeplast, we act with the fact that we have to think human-oriented in every activity we do. We strive to internalize the steps we take within the scope of sustainability and systematize them in a way that will have a positive impact on people. Otherwise, we know that sustainability steps cannot go beyond just creating an image and perception for institutions. That's why we take care to take steps with a strong infrastructure.
In the first stage, we prepared the draft of our sustainability reports. This allowed us to have good data on which areas to focus on and what our priorities would be. It helped us recognize and manage our risks and also see the opportunities we can use in this field.
In line with this report, we have listed the areas we prioritize for our company as follows:
Community and social responsibility;
Energy use and energy efficiency;
Social gender equality;
Producing more sustainable and environmentally friendly products;
The size of our carbon footprint;
Within the scope of Social and Social Responsibility, we are currently continuing our "Vocational High School Coaches" program together with Private Sector Volunteers for our students at Mazhar Zorlu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which our founder Mazhar Zorlu gifted to Turkish education life in 1996. We are trying to prepare our young people for life with this program, which includes training such as time management, goal setting and social activities. With four volunteers from our company, we are trying to touch the lives of 30 students from two groups within the scope of the Vocational High School Coaches program, which has been going on for two years.
Of course, the issue of energy efficiency is at the top of our agenda, just like everyone else's. We started to take the necessary steps for clean energy. We are planning our investment for solar energy that is most suitable for the climatic conditions of our region. Meanwhile, we continue our efforts to use energy more efficiently.
Although the plastic pipe industry in which we operate is a male-dominated sector, our female employee rate is 10.1%. We are happy to reach this rate by increasing the number of our female employees by 15 percent in a short time. While doing this, we also make revolutionary decisions that will enable women to work in fields that are perceived as reserved for men.
Within the framework of our sensitivity to sustainability, our efforts to develop environmentally friendly products continue.
We measure our carbon footprint periodically, continue our preparations for the Border Carbon Regulation, which is also on the agenda of our country, and make plans to reduce our carbon footprint.
First of all, we make the necessary plans to take sustainable steps in all our areas of influence, on issues where we can act together with our suppliers and customers.
It is very important to raise public awareness about sustainability, for non-governmental organizations to act by determining a common attitude on this issue, and to bring the issue of "Total Sustainability Performance" to the agenda, which is of vital importance for future generations. We are moving forward on this path step by step.
